I have had my G1 for about 4 weeks now and have started keeping a log of all the things that are not right with this piece of kit. My previous phone was a HTC Tytyn II and is some ways I miss that phone, Gosh to have the Android interface on the TYTN II, well I guess I can dream.

So here are my current gripes with my G1
  • Cannot access the internet from my laptop via the G1 (I could with my HTC Tytyn II) - internet connection sharing all that web access and i cant get my laptop to harness it
  • The G1 does not appear to support Bluetooth PAN networking - this point is linked to the one above, it connects to visita for 2secs says its found a headphone and then disconnects
  • The G1 will not connect with my bluetooth stereo headphones from Southwing (SA-505) same problem with the above - though it will connect to the BMW i-drive
  • The built-in music player does NOT allow you to play the contents of a single folder on the SD Card only, as opposed to everything or the playlists
  • The battery life is crap and there is no simple way of disabling power consuming functions without downloading a 3rd party applet - and even then you are not quite sure everything is turned off
  • No native PDF reader
  • When looking at gmail account i cant open embedded jpeg attachments
  • Dialer should have a tab with missed calls linked to the addressbook so they are easily identifiable (not just a number) and have a date/time
  • I want to be able to backup SMS txt message threads either to my Gmail/SD Card/PC
  • SMS txt that have phone numbers in the detail of the message you can not easily get those phone numbers/email addresses  into my address book

I have resisted the IPhone & Blackberry's of this world so far. Oh Google get it right. I dont want to go back to windoze

Once you learn how to calibrate your battery you will see that the battery life is very much improved - I'm getting almost 2 days of battery life between charges and that's with moderate use.

Then Google has made a mistake, they should have decided where in the market they were targeting this product. I mean come on these are functions that Windoze supports so at a minimum we have to do better than that piece of crap at a minimum.

As to the IPhone may it burn in hell!!!! >Cheesy

Therein I beg to differ if you are going to go into the market then you either come in with specifications equal / better or different (think Wii) from the competition. The situation is different when you are first in the market and there is no competition.

Roadwarrior functionality for the blackberry and Windoze have been a staple for a while and would have put the G1 head and shoulders above the Iphone at the moment me thinks the G4 sits at 4th when it should be fighting for 1st place with the Iphone.

I mean I am no programmer but how difficult is it to write a fully compliant Bluetooth stack for the G1 and Internet sharing capability. Basic roadwarrior tools.

well lets see windows and blackberry have been out for ages thats why they can do what they can do in the bluetooth stack the g1 for 4months you seem to forget or do not know this is a completely new os so it may be a little difficult to get the bluetooth stack correct.
