this is because the system thinks you have alot of battery when you only have 10-13% left

UPDATE: January 15, 2009

I'm currently getting over 46 hours on a single charge with moderate use.
The main trick that helped me is calibrating the battery, here's how I did it.

1) Run your g1 until it shuts down due to lack of power. Turn it back on and keep running it until it no longer turns on.

2) While the phone is off, charge it for 6 hours.

3) Repeat the above two steps 6 to 8 times.

I did that and I am seeing that the battery lasts much longer and it's difficult to intentionally run it down now. Once you do this repeatedly, you can begin turning on more things and it won't have such a drastic effect on your battery life. I was told by a friend who knows battery technology that these batteries get better the more times they're charged.

ardchoille,
So you mean doing the same process 6 to 8 times consecutives ?  one after other? and it will work? I have not done that many times, just once or two times in all the time that I have my phone and the g1 is not doing great for what I have doone, that means that I need to do it more consecutives?  anything to read about this ?

Yes, I initially did it 6 to 8 times and saw quite a bit of improvement. I did it a few more times the next week but it was much more difficult to intentionally run the battery dead. I have a friend who knows battery technology and he says these batteries get better every time you charge them, so you don't need to do it consecutively to yield the same effect. What I was doing was intentionally running it down and recharging it as quickly as I could and as many times as I could. He says the factory usually calibrates batteries before shipping to the stores but HTC must not have done that. Just wait until the battery reaches 2 or 3% and recharge it, you'll see a progressive improvement.

but, keep in mind that I am hearing impaired and don't use the voice/hearing parts of the phone so I don't know how those components affect battery life.

ardchoille,
Right, well that sounds interesting, I will try it, because I did it like twice or 3 times, in the time that I have my phone and I have not noticed an improvement, so who knows, but I will try more and I will keep posted when I have the answer, anyway thanks for the suggestions to try to do it more times

What I did to run the battery dead was turn everything on (and I mean everything) and watch youtube videos.. this will run a new battery dead very quickly.

You're very welcome. And, yes, keep us posted.. you might find something that will help us hone this technique to perfection Cheesy

I have done this a few times and have noticed that it takes much more to run it dead the next time around.

I have only run it down to the point that it switches itself off twice, but still the battery life is improving.

the only thing that I have not tried it is to leave the phone for 6 to 8 hours, I can not do that, because I use it for my work daily, so no extra phone for now to leave the phone 6 to 8 hours charging when the battery drains.

I have drained the battery and leave it charged for more than a hour when the green light is ok, but not seeing improvements, maybe I need to leave it for 6 to 8 hours as ardchoille wrote.

Yes, like when you're sleeping rayosx. Leave the phone on the charger then, then when you wake up turn the phone on and start the process over again the next night. Try it and see if it helps.
