Hi,

I have a question regarding the updates.

I have purchased a G1 with a new T-Mobile contract, however I am using a different T-Mobile contract SIM card in the phone.  Therefore I am still connected to the T-Mobile network and the phone has not been unlocked.

Does anyone know whether I will still receive the update, or is it somehow associated to the SIM card/number that is attached to the phone?

I can't answer to your question, I don't know it, Hm...  I know that there is T-mobile in UK, right? so why not ask them how you can get the updates?  also you can do them manually, but I believe that you can void the warranty with that, why don't you call customer care?

Let me know and keep me posted,

Hi,

Thanks for your response.  I have thought about giving them a ring, however I'm not sure that I should be using a different contract SIM card in this mobile.  The only reason I have taken this route is due to T-Mobile's policy not allowing you to upgrade early, even if you wish to pay!

Anyway, I will give them a call and see what I can find out and then be sure to keep you posted...

If anyone else already knows the answer please let me know.

Hi,

Well my update came through this morning, this was with my old contract SIM card as opposed to the one associated with the phone.  It updated via GPRS and didn't appear to come via an SMS message.

Oh and I didn't have to call T-Mobile so that was a bonus!

I don't think so. Different country, different build? I don't think the UK folks' systems would be that far behind.
