What does it mean when contacts have check marks?

I noticed when I click on some contacts they have like a checkmark next to their number and some of my contacts don't have that.

Can someone tell me what the checkmark stands for?

Do you notice that checkmark next to the 305 area code?
Why is it there? What does it stand for?

i believe that means its synced with your online google contacts

I don't know because I accidentally went to
Settings>  Applications> Manage Applications> Gmail Storage> Clear Data
and it erased my G-Mail and My Contacts.

I had to Sign back in to my G-Mail and then since My contacts were missing, I had to get it back by syncing.

But since all of my contacts were synced from my gmail account, how come some have them and some dont have the checkmark.

Oh well I'm just curious
