My G1 makes this very loud creaking noise whenever I touch the lower right hand side of the screen. It got me thinking if I received a defective G1, but then when I went to a couple of T-Mobile Stores, all their G1 phones did the same.
Here’s what I am talking about:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybC5DMuDkbc&fmt=18This is my quick DIY fix that takes no time at all, and is undetectable.
Items Needed:
Razor Blade or Exacto Knife
G1
Slide open the G1 Keyboard and you should see this extra thin plastic strip. That’s the problem that is causing that loud, annoying, disturbing, irritating, aggravating, vexatious, creaking Noise. It seems that it rubs against the plastic wall of the touch screen.

This is my G1 after the trim.

Lol oh yeah this guy uses stickers "Craft Felt" but yeah I would rather stick to the trimming of the thin plastic strip so I don't have to rely, check up, or do any maintenance on some "Craft Felt Stickers".
