Importing contacts to gmail google accounts
You can import your address books (from Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo!, orkut, and other services) into Gmail. Importing your contacts isn't difficult. To get started, follow these steps:
First, you'll need to format your contacts as a CSV file -- often times, address books exported from other mail providers are already formatted as CSV files. You can also create your own CSV file.
Once you have a CSV file with all your contacts' information, import the file and transfer your contacts to Gmail. Note that you can only import up to 3000 contacts at a time. If you have more than 3000 contacts, you'll need to create multiple CSV files to upload.

outlook,

File ---> Import / Export
Press Next

then, Export to a File, press Next

Comma Separated values (Windows), press next

Choose the folder to export from, press next.

Go to your google email's account and then log into your Gmail Calendar

Press on the little add under "Other Calendars"

Press the import calendar link

Find and select your file that you exported and then  click import and that's it Smiley

Keep in mind that if you have a lot of info in your contacts, the GMail contact importer isn't working. It drops a bunch of addresses and mixes up information. For just a phone and email, it seems to work. But, if you are trying to migrate from a blackberry or outlook, good luck!

I found the solution -- switch to the old version of Gmail -- look in the top right corner of Gmail by your username. The old version seems to work fine.

The easiest thing to do is Import your contacts into Outlook Express from your blackberry or treo. Use the field mapping to make sure it picks up all the right fields and puts them in the right place.  Then, export from Outlook Express and import into Gmail (old version). That's it!  Shocked
