SOFT RESET

1) Turn Off the Phone
2) Remove Battery
3) Remove Sim Card
4) Put battery and sim card again
5) Turn On the phone
6) Press Menu
7) Factory Data Reset  (Remember that: This action will reset the phone to its initial factory state, erasing all data and wonloaded applications,   so   BACKUP  BACKUP BACKUP first you try this).
Cool Press "reset phone"

HARD RESET
1) Turn off the Phone
2) Press HOME + POWER KEYS (keep them holding for about 25 secs)
until you see a screen with a phone and a triangle.

then

3) SLIDE YOUR KEYBOARD TO OPEN IT
4) press ALT  + l  ( TO SHOW YOU OPTIONS)
5) Press ALT + W   ( TO FORMAT ALL DATA)

Note: When I write the sign +    you don't have to press the + sign, it means that you need to press both keys @ the same time.

Note2: Don't do this if you don't have a Data Plan or your 2G or 3G is not working, why? because you will not be able to sign in again without a working Data Plan (2g / 3g).

Thanks for your post -

Here's a quick question though in regards to "soft reset":

How do you go about backing up all the data on your G1?
I'm not talking about material you've loaded onto the sd card.
Is it possible to backup data from the internal memory? (without root)
For instance, if I completed a soft reset, I'd have to re-download all my applications?

Thanks for all your help in this forum.  It doesn't go unappreciated (well, speaking for most)

Hi,

I have some question. I do soft reset and then it said that "There is a problem communicating with the google servers. This could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services"

I tried many times but it showed the same thing. Before I do the soft reset, I unlocked the phone and it works.

Please help me.

Thank you so much in advance Smiley

I had the same message when I first got the G1. I just had to call T-mobile and tell them I had the G1 so they could change my data plan from what I used with the Iphone.

just a little info for all.  I just preformed a hard reset (mainly to fix an issue with keyboard buttons, didn't help) and by preforming a hard reset, it will not "lock" your phone if previously unlocked.  Also i noticed that all of my previous updates were still installed.  I would have thought those would have been set back to original state as well.  The only thing the factory reset does is wipe out all of your apps and settings you downloaded or changed.  that's it.

I also wanted to add, i found a way to stop the g1 from accessing the net (for you on a pay as you go plan). After you activate your phone, wipe out the apn used to activate.  I did that, and i get to choose when my phone accesses the net.  I still get calls, text messages and i can send them.  I use the wifi to get on the net and at that time the phone can look for updates and syncs.

Now, before anyone jumps in with a big WTF.  I have no choice but to do this.  I am stationed overseas in Bahrain (little island next to Saudi Arabia, in the persian gulf) and yes, i am military.  I had to have this phone.  I unlocked it and got it activated on the local network, which is Zain.  Data plans/normal plans are very expensive here and most everyone stationed here uses the prepaid sim cards.

Anyways, i noticed even with the "use only 2g" was checked and data roaming off, this phone was eating away my minutes, my precious minutes.  What i did out of desperation to stop the drain was erase the apn used for the 3g/edge for Zain Telecom (and yes, i could use their 3g. same freq as in the states).  I am still receiving phone calls and making them and same with texting.  If i want to get apps, i just get a cup of joe and hop on a wi-fi spot.  all the while saving my minutes.

This worked for me and my situation.  I am not promising it will work for other in the states or other parts of the world.  But i wanted to share this revelation and maybe help someone else from loosing minutes when they didn't need to.

Thanks for listening,

Red
