help tethering my g1 with any linux os.

I need any ones help with how to tether my g1 with my laptop. I'm using linux and I heard ubuntu or fedeora works with the easytether app. Any details on how to set up the ip and gateway and crap like that? I know from the linux os I'm using now is hard to figure out. Is there a applet or any thing I gotta do? Details please! I know its possible.
