G1 in the UK Other networks - Factory Re-set get around

I am in the UK, I bought a used G1 that was unlocked, but on reciept I found the previouse owners data still present including his e-mails, and like a kid with a new toy rushed in and Factory re-set the phone. That was a mistake as it needed setting up again at the startup screen for the gmail account, could not doo that with my O2 UK SIM.

I bought a T-mobile Pay and Go SIM, registered it with T-mobile, added £5 credit, installed in G1, set-up gmail and hey presto its working fine, replaced the T-Mobile SIM with my O2 uk SIM and still works fine.
