Here is something that I found on the net and then confirmed in the eweek website.
In a statement on October 3rd, T-Mobile said:
Given the great anticipation and the heavy presale demand for the T-Mobile G1 with Google, we nearly tripled the number of phones initially available for delivery on our Oct. 22 launch date, and have sold through them all
The HTC-manufactured phone has been widely anticipated, as it is the first device of it’s kind to sport Google’s Android OS. As an Android device, it will also provide access to the Android Market, Google’s answer to the rival App Store which has proved so popular with iPhone users.
According to the T-Mobile G1 site, customers can still pre-order the device, with an expected delivery date “as early as 10th November 2008″.
T-Mobile clearly have a great opportunity, being the first on the market with an Android-based phone. It seems like a sensible move to increase production and also to have a direct route to customers who wish to pre-order the device. How well they are able to capitalise on this opportunity will depend to some extent on how well they are able to market the device and educate consumers before their competitors launch Android-based devices of their own.
