Need Help With Picture Texts

Hi, I'm new to the G1 and I recently found out that my phone has root access, however, I'm unable to receive any picture messages. Now I've read many forums recommending programs such as Save MMS, AnMMS, or forwarding it to my email and I tried all those options but none seem to work for me. Save MMS will not read any attachments at all, AnMMS will detect attached pictures but will not display or download them, and no matter what app i use for my messaging (such as handcent or the default messaging app) neither of them will show me the forwarding option when i long press on the text with the picture. I currently do not have a data plan and this is the build of my phone "dream_devphone-userdebug 1.5 CRB21". Any help would be greatly appreciated and also I heard that I can parse the mysql file that saves the mms messages and pull them out that way, is this true? and if so, how can I do this?
