Ok guys, I connect my G1 to my PC via usb cord.  Click on the notification and choose "Mount".  This is where the problem starts.  No new removable disk shows up automatically.  I go to "Computer" and right click the removable disk that corresponds with my G1 (which happens to be J:).  I click on "format" and my G1 makes the notification sound and the PC tells me there is no disk in that drive.  I drag down the top status bar on the G1 and the phone gives me the choice to "Mount" or "Unmount" (acts as though it's been unmounted).  I'm running Vista Home Edition if it matters...

I do not use non-open source software, but I have heard of others with windows needing to update their drivers. Do a search for Vista drivers.

Just format the sd card from your phone. When you need to do the partition, look up androidcee's guide to formatting it from your phone. I can't format from my usb, it just won't let me do it.

A good decision is based on knowledge and not on numbers.
