I make all my ringtones on my computer and set them at any part that i like and leave them at .wav and they play PERFECTLY, sometimes i feel the quality is better than mp3. does any one else use .wav?

qaulity better but remember its only fhone hardware aka speaker so actually putting them on as a wav file is so much wasted space better to save them as mp3 @192kbs sound just as well as a wav file on a cell phone

Wav sounds better than MP3 but you can't tell the difference between a WAV and a MP3 on the G1 speakers... The default ringtones on the G1 are in OGG format, anybody using that format for their ringtones?

I am an audio engineer by trade, and I can tell you that .WAV files always will sound better then .MP3.

The reason behind this is .WAV has no compression.

Mp3s use a technique called perceptual noise shaping. It's perceptual because the MP3 format uses characteristics of the human ear to design the compression it uses. For example:

    * There are certain sounds that the human ear cannot hear.
    * There are certain sounds that the human ear hears much better than others.
    * If there are two sounds playing simultaneously, we hear the louder one but cannot hear the softer
one.

Using this certain parts of a song can be eliminated without significantly hurting the quality of the song for the listener. Compressing the rest of the song with well-known compression techniques shrinks the song considerably -- by a factor of 10 at least. When you're done creating an MP3 file, what you have is a "near-CD-quality" song. The MP3 version of the song does not sound exactly the same as the original CD song because some of it has been removed.

This is why .WAV files sound better, they are the full digital copy og the music where MP3 is a compressed and stripped down version.
