If you want your custom ring tones for text messages, just make a folder on your SD card called "notifications" and all the MP3s you put on there will appear when you go to select a text message ring tone.

ok, i just dl'd ringdroid and set up some text tones, and the one that came with the phone is still going off, even tho the mp3 one i used is highlighted.  also is there a way to set different notification tones for each different person in my phonebook?

use rings extended it works the best. to add ring tones to individual contacts open the contact press menu then edit contact you'll see ring tone then change it there.

You should be able to use ringdroid for MP3 ringtone/notify

just make sure when you're saving the ringtone don't save it as a ringtone, you have to click ringtone and hit notifications so that you can use the ringtone for texts.
