The app is on the market and is called SUFBS.
I would first like to say I am not in any way making any money off of this, and purchased the app myself.
This is a file browser for root users, and so much more. This app gives a nice GUI for browsing the files in your g1, and allows you to browse folders that normally need root access (such as data/app, data/app-private, system, etc). You can cut, copy and paste from root folders to any other folders with screen presses (that is , you can copy apps, delete amazon mp3, etc without using the terminal). You can create zip archives from apps in root folders (not allowed with any other apps), batch operations are very simple, and mounting /system (or /data) as read/write is a simple as pressing a button. To add to all of this, you can send files through email or messaging with this app, it should work with bluex soon, it can open txt, doc (I think), and can even run shell scripts (making the use of my backup scripts a breeze.). There is also a nicer terminal emulator that uses either a soft or hard keyboard, and a search tool that will search through all folders (including root).
Why am I doing this for no money, well the dev, Pentace, is amzing. He charges only 1.99 for the app (is not too concerned with a real profit), and updates almost daily. He maintains a thread at XDA, and any request posted, is ususally implemented within a day or two. As of yet only around 100 people have purchased this app, but the amount of work he is putting into it has been more than $199 worth. I use this app more than any other, and I would love to see it keep improving, and the dev at least be compensated for his time.
The bottom line is this, you can manage virtually everything in your G1 without having to use the terminal. This has cut so much time from restoring my system after a wipe (I can be ready to go after 15-30 minutes).
