Is there any one who wants to come to the DarkSide (ROOT)

dont get carried away you will still have to run Linux OS (Android)
but you can do your best to make it look like XP

Yes. To root you will lose everything.  When you root you will no longer have a TMO G1, you will either have a HTC DREAM, MAGIC, or Sapphire. 

But the benefits are great.

Also saw some people concerned that it is realy difficult.  I have a hard time completing some basics on a pc, heck a few weeks ago I asked how to post pics from my pc to the forum.  But when I rooted my phone last night it went down without a hiccup. I couldn't believe the ease of the whole process. I was scared silly during the process but it was truthfully easy.  The best advise I can give is just be realy prepared before attempting it. Personally I had 3 videos and the step by step provided on this site up on my computer screen to refer to as I went through the process.

  Root or no root, the g1 is a great device.  Hope this helps some people make up their minds.

what are you guy's talking about by rooting your phone? what does it allow you to do differently than what's already on the phone? Like I said before, I'm not computer literate at all, I'm worried that I will do something wrong and screw up my phone, and that's the last thing I want to do.

I am relatively new to the G-1 world, but have been researching all I can to "maximize" this amazing device. I want to ROOT this so badly, so I'm looking into all the ways I can.

What is the general opinion on using "RyeBrye's" Android Rooting in 1-click method? It was repeatedly being found in my search, but I wanted to check with you guys first.

In addition, I do NOT use the data plan, but I do have access to a data plan sim card. If I opt to root, am I required to have the data plan once the process has begun? I would just need to plan accordingly.
