For all those eagerly waiting for their cupcakes, T-Mobile has some good news, the cupcake update will be sent out in April.

"We will be offering G1 users the firmware update sometime in April"(or if you saw this on XDA it comes out in Avril), a spokesperson for T-Mobile told Pocket-lint. The spokesperson added that they didn't know if this was connected to Magic's US launch.

the cupcake firmware upgrade will either.
1.overwrite root data
2.destroy your phone
3.have no effect on G1 root phones.

Okay i'm confused now.
When you root your phone I though it was only to add things that factory phones couldn't?
Or have more freedom on it.

Root users will not get OTA updates because we have manually updated our phones.  So you will have to reflash your phone with the cupcake update when it comes out, but you will get it eventually.  Root does add things to your phone that doesn't come with as factory.  Does that make more sense to you now?
